Key tax law changes for 2025:

  • The Child Tax Credit remains at a maximum of $2,000 per qualifying child under 17, with the refundable portion increased to $1,700. 
  • The standard deductions have been raised to $15,000 for single filers, $30,000 for married couples filing jointly, and $22,500 for heads of households. 
  • The top marginal tax rate remains at 37% for incomes over $626,350 for single filers and $751,600 for married couples filing jointly. 
  • The Alternative Minimum Tax exemption amounts have increased to $88,100 for single filers and $137,000 for married couples filing jointly. 
  • The Earned Income Tax Credit's maximum amount for three or more qualifying children has increased to $8,046. 
  • The Qualified Transportation Fringe Benefit's monthly limitation has been raised to $325, and the Health Flexible Spending Arrangements employee salary reduction limit has increased to $3,300.

  • Jan. 15, 2025 – Fourth quarter estimated tax payments due for 2024 for self-employed individuals or those with other income without tax withholding.
  • Tax Season officially starts on Monday, January 27th 2025!
  • Deadline for employers to send W-2 forms: Employers must send W-2 tax forms by January 31st 2025. (So expect to see it before February 10th 2025)
  • Feb. 18, 2025 – Deadline to reclaim your exemption from withholding.  You must file a new W-2 form with your employer by this date if you are planning on changing to exempt status. 
  • April 1, 2025 – Last day to take the 2024 required minimum distribution from your retirement account if you turned 73 during the previous year (2024).
  • April 15, 2025 - Final Due date for: Filing a federal return (most states too) OR to file an extension.
